Lake Bohinj, Slovenia

Time off with Yoga in Slovenia's Alps

For this spring time Yoga Retreat 2021 we are based in the Bohinj valley in the heart of Triglav National Park. Designed as a beginner’s yoga retreat for every age, the sequences also cater to more advanced students searching for core strength, flexibility and balance.

For the yoga retreat we start our days by taking care of our body and mind, connecting with the mornings’ fresh energy from the lake and getting a touch of luxury pampering by the Chef. From there we will explore different areas with a licensed guide and get insight in the beauties of the Julian Alps.

Triglav in Slovenian means 3 heads: the 3 peaks of Slovenia’s highest mountain (set on the national flag) are visible from Triglav Apartments, our venue. The views are amazing and there’s so much to explore nearby.

Corona Update

Slovenia became the first European country to declare the coronavirus pandemic under control in 2020. And still today, the country has limited cases. Should your trip/travel need to be cancelled for reasons related to Covid19, might it occur in Slovenia or in the country where you live, you will be refunded in full.

YOGA

We start the day on the lakes’ shore, still pristine in the early hours, being in the present moment, engaging together in an energizing Pranayama (breathing exercise) and dynamic Hatha yoga class led by Tamara.

A restoring evening yoga class is held outdoors or in a wooden room, depending on the conditions, with a wonderful view of sunset over the lake, guided by Miliza or meditation and mantra guided by Emilie.

Your Hosts

Miliza Ceh

Host & Yoga Instructor

Miliza is Slovenian native, living in Switzerland and Thailand, and has completed her Integral Yoga Teacher Training on Madeira island, Portugal. She’s deepening her program Yoga for your Back with Svastha Yoga Therapy, focus on the lower back, and guides her students through gentle but powerful sequences to strengthen their core muscles and widen their range of motion, always with the focus on supporting the lower back without coming into pain zone, to relieve back pain.

Tamara Dobravec

Co-Host & Yoga Instructor

Tamara is a sympathetic young lady, Bohinj native, and has completed her Hatha Yoga teacher training certified by International Yoga Alliance, in Yogdham, Rishikesh, India (200h) and with Angiyoga in Ljubljana, Slovenia (300h). She built up her yoga school in Bohinj and during the sunny season guides classes in the nature.

She likes small groups to accompany every student on his way to overcome challenges and find well-being.

Grega

Mountain Guide

Grega is licensed guide and owner of Hike & Bike living his entire life in the Julian Alps. During our yoga holidays he takes us to secret spots where we experience the best viewpoints in Bohinj valley, meadows, gorges (canyons), waterfalls and peaks and enjoy traditional mountain food, while he informs us about traditions, history and sometimes also mythology.

Katja Jemec

Katja is photographer and mountains passionate, knowing lots of remote and breathtaking spots. She takes us on a photo tour: take your camera (fully charged!) with you!

She runs her own photography business and works as the lead photographer of the Balkan Rivers Defence – fighting for free floating rivers of Balkan. A passionate outdoorsy; a hiker, runner, kayaker and generally in love with all of the outdoor activities.

Émilie Mangoni

Mantra and Meditation

Emilie is a singer and yoga teacher, born in France, living on Madeira island. She is joining us by Zoom (live online) to guide our meditation and mantra evenings with her melodic and warm voice.

Indeed, both voice and music are powerful tools for well-being and healing. The sound of your voice and instruments bring us to a higher conscious state of mind, allowing for better relaxation.

Damir Salkič

Triglav Restaurant Manager

Since Damir is also a sommelier, you can be sure that you get a suitable wine with your selected dish, as his wine cellar boasts over 130 wine labels of recognised local and foreign wine producers. His understanding of wines is fascinating, his nose, eyes and taste buds can uncover even the innermost secrets that winegrowers don’t want to reveal. Damir gladly passes on his knowledge to guests and turns them into friends and attentive tasters with his enthusiasm and professionalism. Our breakfasts and some lunches and dinners are enlightened by him.

MOUNTAINS

Our hikes in the heart of the Triglav National Park are designed for a duration of 2 to 4 hours, with short options, enabling walkers of all levels to explore new horizons and enjoy spectacular views of Slovenia.

We visit an Eco farm with cheese tasting, go for a traditional shepherds’ lunch on the meadow Vogar, we have Slovenian dinner at a local restaurant and also local spirits and herbal teas are on the menu.

If the conditions allow, we go for an evening torch walk around the hill Vrtovin, listening to some great local legends and stories.

On a full day tour to the Soca Valley, with the most beautiful Slovene river Soca, we have the chance to swim in the crystal clear emerald green waters. Some other highlights are the mysterious Kozjak waterfall captured in a stony chamber, Napoleon bridge in Kobarid, lunch in Bovec and amazing views all day long.

How to Get There

By Plane

Slovenia’s airport is 25 km out of the capital Ljubljana. For your flight research you write “Ljubljana” (the full name would be Letališče Jožeta Pučnika Ljubljana, but even the locals don’t try to memorize this name). Find some flight connections here.

By Train/Bus

A comfy option is to put the car on the train in Feldkirch, Austria on the border to Switzerland (around 22:00), sleep in the train and wake up next morning in Ljubljana.

Other comfy options are night trains with Couchette and Wagon lits from Zurich and Munich. Find more details here.

By Car

Slovenia can easily be reached by car and there is a good network of motorways. Some travel distances: Ljubljana is 400 km from Munich, 700 km from Zurich, 1.000 km from Geneva and Berlin and 1.240 km from Amsterdam.

We collected some itineraries in this article for you.

The Last Kilometers

We are at Triglav Apartments 63 km north-west from the airport.

From Ljubljana or its airport you reach lake Bohinj within 1 or 2 hours depending on your travel option, whether by train, by bus or by car (let us know and we will pick you up).

What TO BRING

  • Yoga clothes
  • We recommend closed toe sport shoes suitable for walking in the mountains (hiking shoes if you have)
  • Warm clothes and rain jacket. The weather in the mountains can be unpredictable
  • A small backpack
  • Bring photography equipment with you. Also tripod and wide lens are recommended.

From Our Clients

“Yoga classes were possible even for beginners particularly as we were in a small group. We had very carefully prepared meals, met wonderful people of different nationalities and this allowed us to build up a nice energy.

The outdoor meditation was a great time for a reconnection to our dear mother earth. The teachers gave us high quality methods and practices.”

Danièle

“Thank you, Miliza, for all your organization, I spent a very good time, met nice people, learned so many things during these few days, was eating healthy food, visiting nice places.

It was a nice retreat, it was so fun, wonderful time spent with this group. Hope to see you again for another retreat.”

Michèle

“The retreat in Chiang Mai was an unforgettable week, physically and emotionally intense. Real moments of exchange and sharing around yoga and meditation. This retreat not only rejuvenated me but I felt regenerated as the days went by.

I think the place was particularly well-chosen, Miliza, and the synergy of the group really allowed me to be as relaxed as ever!”
